SUMMARY:Rewards\, recognition and celebration- it’s the 100th Learning and Development Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:Employee rewards and recognition can easily miss the mark and do the opposite of what was intended.   \nReward and recognition are often: \n\nBadly timed\nNot relevant or applicable\nOne size fits all and therefore fit no one\nCulturally insensitive\nDisappointing to the intended individual\, team etc.\nGeneric and meaningless\nDamaging to the individual’s motivation and \nNegatively affect the organization’s culture.\n\nCase in point: I have a distinct and super cringy memory of an employer giving an employee a bottle of wine in recognition of their efforts …. the same employee who was a recovering alcoholic.  As the so-called reward was being presented\, everyone else in the room shuffled awkwardly while the employee had a ghastly expression on their face. \nWe can do so much better. \nAnd it doesn’t have to be hit or miss. \n“Failing to embrace continuous recognition\, where you recognize in the moment\, means you miss the opportunity to motivate your employees and provide visibility of and reinforce good behavior” (source: Reward Gateway). \nWhen done well\, employee rewards and recognition can have the following benefits for individuals: \n\nIncrease engagement\nGreater employee satisfaction \nMore enjoyment of work\nDecrease stress \nDecrease absenteeism \n\nLikewise\, when done well\, employee rewards and recognition can have the following benefits for the organization: \n\nDecrease employee turnover and the resulting high costs for rehiring\, onboarding\, and retraining\nImprove team culture\nGenerate higher loyalty and satisfaction scores from customers\nIncrease retention overall but especially high-quality employees\nIncrease employee productivity (source: Quantum Workplace)\n\nOn this anniversary of the 100th Learning and Development Roundtable\, we’re going to do something a little different.   \nWe’re going to learn about rewards and recognition as we celebrate and while we’re at it\, teach you how to do the same! \nDon’t miss the last Learning and Development Roundtable before we take a break until September. \nIn this free workshop on June 15th\, with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan\,  you’ll: \n\nLearn about employee rewards and recognition\nDiscover two powerful tools for customizing rewards and recognition\nPractice simple\, targeted celebration tools \nHave fun and learn ways to celebrate while we celebrate: 1) the Learning and Development Roundtable\, 2) you\, and 3) teams in general\nCome away with some small\, unique gifts!\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff).\n\nRSVP using this link by June 13th. Then watch your inbox for our agenda and how to participate online. \nPlease note the dates and times alternate each month so as to reach more people in various time zones at their request. \n\n7-8:30 am Vancouver\n8-9:30 am Mexico\n10-11:30 am Montreal/New York\n11 am-12:30 pm Rio\n3-4:30 pm London\n4-5:30 pm Paris\n5-6:30 pm Nairobi/Beirut/Somalia/Amman\n6-7:30 pm Abu Dhabi\n\nClick here to convert to your timezone if it’s not listed above and to double-check the times as they can sometimes change due to daylight savings times.  Use 5 – 6:30 pm EAT(Nairobi) to compare your timezone to. \nIf you’ve just realized with dread that the time is untenable for you this month\, don’t worry\, as long as you’re a Learning and Development Roundtable member (membership is free) you’ll get access to the audio and (timestamped) video recordings\, workbook and more.  \nTake action now –>  \n\nJoin the mailing list to receive invitations to the monthly meetings\, and get access to all the meeting resources.  \nRSVP by June 13th. \nShare this workshop information with a friend and/or colleague and participate together.  The more the merrier.\nAdd the rest of the Learning and Development Roundtable 2023 dates to your calendar: \n\nSeptember 21\nOctober 26\nNovember 16

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable: Easy\, peasy tech tools to save your sanity in work and at home
DESCRIPTION:  \nDaily life can often be a massive challenge.  From overloaded to-do lists to crunched time\, and from feeling like we’re being pulled in every direction to the dizzyingly fast pace of life – it’s enough to make even the most patient person have a meltdown (or multiple meltdowns). \nAdded to this is the pressure of using technology\, which seems to change faster than you can say ‘Make it stop!’  So-called helpful tech tools can be a huge time suck. Who hasn’t disappeared down the rabbit hole of YouTube videos\, Pinterest boards\, and/or TikTok videos only to emerge sleepy-eyed and aghast at the hours that have mysteriously evaporated? \nAdd the pressures of daily life to the pressure that tech causes and the incredibly\, extraordinarily\, hair-raisingly frustrating situations that ensue is enough to cause a colourful array of curse words to fly out of your mouth all the while you’re restraining yourself from throwing your computer out the window.  \nYou’re not alone.  Eighty percent of people experience at least one technology-related frustration every day\, with 30%  of folks experiencing five or more tech frustrations daily.  That’s a whole lot of frustration and a whole lot of wasted time. \nFrom incessant\, distracting notifications and not being able to collaborate or find your digital resources\, there’s a well-documented\, litany of very justifiable complaints. \nBut it doesn’t have to be that way. \nImagine for a moment\, if you could easily and effortlessly find your digital resources\, and keep track of your to-do’s without requiring a Ph.D.\, in Tech.  Imagine you could use some Simple and Easy (yes\, with a capital S and E) tools to reduce your overwhelm\, and amp up your ease and efficiency. \nSound like a pipe dream?  I assure you it’s not.  \nJoin me for a fun\, interactive workshop where I’ll introduce you to a simple\, effective process for identifying your specific pain points\, and easy-peasy tech tools that ease those very pains. \nIn this free workshop on May 25th with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan you’ll:\n\nLearn how to identify and prioritize your pain points in life and in work by rewriting Einstein’s theory of relativity\nCreate your very own tech map – both your current map and where you’d like to journey to\, using an editable worksheet template\nDiscover my four-point plan for minimizing pain and ensuring your tech success\nHave fun exploring a bunch of simple\, easy tools to show you that tech tools really can bring you ease and efficiency whether your pain points are related to managing information\, collaborating\, saving time/being more productive\, researching\, managing your email\, and/or professional development.\nPush the opportunities even more with tech tools just for fun\, for being of service\, and for mental health/work-life balance.\nCome away feeling inspired\, hopeful and with a workbook full of strategies and tools for you to implement\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff)   \n\nRSVP using this link by May 23rd. SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable: The surprising skill you didn’t know you needed when giving feedback
DESCRIPTION:What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘feedback?’  \nWhether we’re on the giving or receiving end of feedback\, most of us get a pit of dread in our stomachs\, with a million butterflies threatening to fly up our throats and suffocate us.  \nOr maybe you’re saying to yourself that you don’t give feedback very often. I beg to differ.   \nIf you’re human\, if you’re part of a team\, you give feedback.   If you’re a colleague\, partner\, parent\, and/or friend\, you guessed it; you give feedback. \nFeedback includes sharing your opinions\, thoughts\, comments\, constructive (or not!) criticism\, and/or input. \nKnowing we’re about to receive feedback: \n\nActivates our flight\, flee or freeze response\nTends to trip our anxiety\nIgnites top-of-the-mind reactions instead of thoughtful responses\n\nAnd when it’s our turn to give feedback\, research shows\, we have a nasty habit of believing that we’re good at giving feedback and that our feedback makes a difference (insert self-congratulatory pat on the back here). \nI’m about to pop that bubble. \nDouglas Stone and Sheila Heen\, in their excellent book “Thanks for the Feedback” say we have it all wrong.  We’re so used to focusing on giving feedback that we don’t understand the real key is learning how to receive feedback. \nIn my thirty-plus year career in Learning and Development I put their book among my top five learnings in my life. Seriously.  That’s how great this book and its valuable insights are.  \nThankfully\, given how incredibly important both giving and receiving feedback is\, there are some simple tips and techniques we can use to open up whole new worlds of being able to do both of those things (giving and receiving feedback) effectively.  I’ve designed a brand-new workshop to share them with you. \nIn this free workshop on April 27th\, with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan\,  you’ll:\n\nUncover just how critical being able to receive feedback is and what a massive difference it can make to your life\, your career\, and more.\nLearn a simple technique for giving more effective feedback.\nUnderstand the surprising fallacies we tell ourselves about giving and receiving feedback and how to overcome them.\nPractice some simple tips to help your nerves when they’re trying to get the best of you (aka\, you’re about to give or receive some feedback).\nPut the I in T.R.Y. by exploring the unique\, unconscious filters you’re putting all the feedback you receive through\, unbeknownst to you (til now!).\nExplore some simple tips for amping up how you both give and receive feedback.\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff).\n\nRSVP using this link by April 25th. Then watch your inbox for our agenda and how to participate online.\nPlease note the dates and times alternate each month so as to reach more people in various time zones at their request. \n\n7 – 8:30 am\, Vancouver\n9 – 10:30 am Mexico\n10 – 11:30 am Montreal\, New York\n11 am – 12:30 pm Rio\n3 – 4:30 pm London\n4 – 5:30 pm Paris\, Geneva\n5 – 6:30 pm Nairobi\, Beirut\, Amman\, Mogadishu\n6 – 7:30 pm Abu Dhabi\n\nClick here to convert to your timezone if it’s not listed above and to double-check the times\, as they can sometimes change due to daylight savings times.  Use 5 – 6:30 pm EAT (Nairobi) to compare your timezone to. \nIf you’ve just realized with dread that the time is untenable for you this month\, don’t worry; as long as you’re a Learning and Development Roundtable member (membership is free)\, you’ll get access to the audio and (timestamped) video recordings\, workbook and more.  \nTake action now –> \n\nJoin the mailing list to receive invitations to the monthly meetings and get access to all the meeting resources.  \nRSVP by April 25th. \nShare this workshop information with a friend and/or colleague and participate together.  The more the merrier.\nAdd the rest of the Learning and Development Roundtable 2023 dates to your calendar: \n\nMay 25\nJune 15\nSeptember 21\nOctober 26\nNovember 16

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable: Mindset - The number one skill you didn’t know you needed (seriously)
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n“After decades of research\, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck\, Ph.D.\, discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea.” \nDo you know what it is? \nIt’s the power of your mindset.  How you think about yourself\, your skills\, your abilities\, etc. have a shockingly huge impact on pretty much everything – your success at work\, at school\, in the arts\, in sports\, even in dating\, and mental health. \nWhether you tend to have a fixed mindset or a growth mindset makes all the difference.\nNow you may be saying to yourself\, “But Lee-Anne\, we’re born with a particular mindset and it can’t be changed.”  That’s simply not the case. (And funnily enough\, that’s an example of the unhelpful\, fixed mindset.) \nNot only is it pretty darn simple to change your mindset\, you can maintain your growth mindset and use it to “foster outstanding accomplishment.” Source: Mindset: the new psychology of success\, how we can learn to fulfill our potential. \nSound too good to be true?  I promise you it’s not. \nIn my thirty-plus year career in Learning and Development\, I put the concept of mindset up there in my top five learnings in my life. That’s how critical it is\, not to mention helpful. \nIn this free workshop on March 16th\, with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan\,  you’ll:\n\nUncover what exactly mindset means\, including what it means to have a fixed mindset and a growth mindset\nBe shocked to discover the implications of your mindset on how you deal with failure\, how you view effort\, and more\nFigure out how to identify your own mindset\, whether it’s more fixed or growth\nLearn four steps for getting a growth mindset\nPut everything together and learn how to maintain your newfound growth mindset\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff)   \n\nRSVP using this link by March 14th. SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable: Communicate better\, resolve conflict easier and lessen misunderstandings with Life Lenses®
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nDo you sometimes feel like you’re speaking a language nobody gets but you\, and you DESPERATELY wish you could communicate more clearly and be understood?\nDo you hate conflict\, and yet somehow find yourself navigating a bunch of misunderstandings\, hurt feelings\, and confusion?\nHow about this – do you feel like you’re having to constantly decipher the people around you? Best case\, it’s tiring. Worst case\, it feels like people are trying to provoke you with all the daft\, dumb things they’re doing.\n\nWe’ve got a lot of things coming at us\, so naturally — and quite rightly — we filter LOTS of things out. \n  \nBut what if you’re also filtering out too much of the stuff that actually matters? What if all of that unconscious filtering is the very reason you so often feel stuck\, lost\, misunderstood. As if everyone around you is speaking Greek. \n  \nThe consequences are huge; we miss out on the insights\, and experiences that can enrich our lives. We miss out on the things that can help us reduce conflict\, lessen disagreements\, parent with ease\, create far better products\, services\, programs… \n  \nHere’s the thing: Great minds DON’T think alike.\n  \nOnly we’ve been sucked into the idea that they do. \n  \nBut there is a way to shift your view\, to address your biases (we all have ‘em)\, and to benefit from other perspectives: \n  \nLearn to look at life through different lenses – the Life Lenses® that is.. \n  \nIn this free workshop on September 15th\, with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan\,  you’ll:\n\nDiscover the eight Life Lenses® and which ones appeal to you the most\nIlluminate your ‘natural’ perspectives – and see where you shine when it comes to conflict\, communication\, teambuilding\, project management and more\nUncover how you can communicate with lenses that are different from yours (and why that’s so important)\nLearn how to avoid the very natural and very strong temptation to stick to your own lenses \nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff) (but know that you don’t have to be a UN staff to attend\, any and all are welcome)\n\nRSVP using this link by September 13th. Then watch your inbox for our agenda and how to participate online.\nPlease note the dates and times alternate each month so as to reach more people in various time zones at their request. \n\n8-10 am London\n9-11 am Paris/Rome\n10 am-noon Nairobi/Beirut\n11 am-1 pm Abu Dhabi\n12:45-2:45 pm Katmandu\n3-5 pm Manila\n4-6 pm Fukuoka\n\nClick here to convert to your timezone if it’s not listed above and to double-check the times as they can sometimes change due to daylight savings times. \n  \nTake action now –> Join the mailing list to receive invitations to the monthly meetings\, and get access to all the meeting resources (including time-stamped recordings in case you can’t make it in real time).  And don’t forget to  RSVP for this roundtable by September 13.  \n  \nOptional: if you wish\, find out more about Life Lenses® here and get the most out of this workshop then get to know your Life Lenses® in detail and take the assessment here.

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable: One size doesn’t fit all; six tools for intercultural communication and intercultural conflict resolution
DESCRIPTION:  \nHave you ever felt like a cauldron of doom was boiling when it felt like a colleague was speaking to you in Greek\, despite your very best effort to understand them?  Have you ever felt like a dog chasing its tail trying to get your message across to a so-called difficult staff person?  Or perhaps you can remember a time working in a team when things were simply not working and every minor issue felt like climbing Mount Everest. \n  \nCommunication and conflict resolution skills are central to our success at work and at home but add culture into the mix and you’ve got a real cauldron that can threaten to bubble over.   \n  \nCulture can be defined as the ‘collective programming of our minds that divides us into groups’ (G Hofstede) and when we realize it includes age\, ethnicity\, gender\, nationality\, and more then without our even being aware of it\, 99.9% of communication and conflict issues have a cultural root. \n  \nYet we ignore those roots at our peril and tend to keep doing more of whatever it is that’s not working. \n  \nThe cost of intercultural miscommunication and conflict is high.  It can: \n\nUndermine creative thinking\nDecreases individuals’ effectiveness at connecting ideas from disparate cultures (source).\nHave negative impacts on  our stakeholder’s experience\nReduce available talent\nGive us and our organization a bad name (source)\nPrevent valuable input from being heard\nIncrease prejudice and stereotyping\nPit individuals\, teams\, and organizations against one another (source)\n\n  \nAs discourse seems to grow more inward-looking and divisive … we must continue to think inclusively and globally (source). \n  \nSounds good right?  But how do we do that when resources and time are tight?   \n  \nIn this free workshop on May 26th\, with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan\,  you’ll learn six skills including:\n\n1. Discovering the surprising way your brain tricks you into making cultural mistakes and how to get around that\n2. How to identify your areas of how cultural communication and how to stretch\n3. Uncovering your tendency towards magical thinking and what to do about it\n4. Learning how to get to certainty by first dancing with uncertainty\n5. Discovering how to stay out of the ICU by using my intercultural communication and conflict resolution I.C.U. tool\n6. How identifying how you feel about conflict instantly moves you forward in your cultural communication and conflict resolution\nYou can count the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff)   \n\nRSVP using this link by May 24th. \nTake action now –> Join the mailing list to receive invitations to the monthly meetings\, and get access to all the meeting resources (including time-stamped recordings in case you can’t make it in real-time).  And don’t forget to  RSVP for this roundtable by May 24th.  And click the button below to add the event to your calendar.

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable: How to do Hybrid Meetings and Events without Headaches
DESCRIPTION:Just when we’ve gotten the hang of online meetings and online events\, now we’re being asked to add another new beast to the mix.  That beast being hybrid events and hybrid meetings. \n  \nA hybrid event/meeting is one where some participants are in a virtual room (such as MS Teams or Zoom) and some are in a physical room\, in real life.  This can make for feeling left out (when the focus is only on folks in the ‘real’ room)\, bored and confused. It can also add a huge number of technical challenges and more. \n  \nThe technical challenges can include hearing too much\, like ear-shattering audio feedback\, or not enough.  How many times have you heard “Amrita\, you’re muted – you need to turn on your mic!”?   \n  \nHybrid can make the confidence level of even the most assured folks plummet deeper than the deepest\, darkest parts of the ocean.  And quickly.   \n  \nOur best-laid hybrid plans and preparations can quickly go sideways.  Layered on top of folks feeling generally overwhelmed and exhausted\, it’s a perfect storm for cranky\, aggravated people.  And very unproductive meetings/events. \n  \nBut believe it or not (and you will believe after this workshop) hybrid can bring our best to the table. \n  \nHold onto your hankies\, “a hybrid event model\, combining the rich experiences of an in-person event with the reach and convenience of a virtual event\, is emerging as the new programming standard”  (HBR). \n  \n“Almost 50% of corporate event attendees consider hybrid events the ideal format for the future\, compared to exclusively in-person or virtual-only events\, according to Metrigy Research. Businesses are embracing this new reality. In 2021\, 64% of businesses say they’re increasing their virtual events\, and 58% say they’re planning for a mix of virtual and in-person events” (HBR). \n  \nBut how pray-tell\, do we get there? \n  \nIn this free workshop on April 21st\, with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan\,  you’ll:\n\nExplore the benefits and challenges of hybrid meetings and events\nUnwrap two simple key goals to make every hybrid a success\nLearn to distinguish what works and what doesn’t work for hybrid\nExplore ten powerful\, engaging techniques you can use to take your hybrids to the next level\nCome away with a powerful tech tip cheat sheet\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff)   \n\n  \nRSVP using this link by April 19th. Then watch your inbox for our agenda and how to participate online.\n  \nPlease note the dates and times alternate each month so as to reach more people in various time zones at their request. \n\n8-10 am Mexico\n11 am-1 pm Rio\n9-11 am Montreal/New York\n5-7 pm Nairobi\n6-8 pm Abu Dhabi\n\n  \nClick here to double-check your timezone as it can sometimes change due to daylight savings times (be sure to compare your timezone to 5 pm EAT/Nairobi). \n  \nTake action now –>\n Join the mailing list to receive invitations to the monthly meetings\, and get access to all the meeting resources (including time-stamped recordings in case you can’t make it in real-time).  And don’t forget to  RSVP for this roundtable by April 19th.

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable: How to make online meetings more interactive and effective
DESCRIPTION:We’ve all heard the old adage – monkey see\, monkey do.  While we may have become more familiar with online meetings\, it doesn’t mean they’re engaging or effective.  There’s way too much monkey see\, monkey do -a.k.a. boring\, non-interactive\, lecture style\, exhausting online meetings. \n  \nWhy are online meetings so bad?\n\nWe are suffering from O.F. (online fatigue)\, even the CEO of Zoom has admitted as much. And it’s no wonder\, we are spending 30 billion minutes in online collaboration (which more than doubled in 2021)\, says John Frank\, Vice President for UN Affairs at Microsoft in the UN Digital Executive Series – The Next Normal Webinar.\nOnline meetings tend to be the same as standing a mere 50 cm away from our colleagues\, which is like all being crammed into an elevator and not being able to look away\nWe tend to make false assumptions\, that everyone is in the same boat as us\, which causes all sorts of misunderstandings.  For example\, someone who doesn’t have a specific office space and has little ones underfoot and is therefore reluctant to turn on their camera may be seen as standoffish or uninvolved by her boss who has a large home office\, lives alone\, and is yearning for human interaction.\nOur comfort level with technology is still a challenge.  How many times have you said to a colleague ‘you’re muted\, please unmute yourself’?\nPeople are working in silos.  We’re not sharing information in ways that we used to because we’re not gathering around the water cooler\, or bumping into each other informally as we walk to the elevator or grab a coffee.\n\n  \nAnd yet we continue on\, girding our loins and submitting to the online frustrations and overwhelm. \n  \nBut we can do better.  Imagine if you will\, that your next online meeting\, had your staff more engaged\, interacting more\, contributing more\, and feeling more connected.\n  \nIt’s within your reach.  Seriously. \n  \nIn this free workshop on March 17th with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan you’ll learn:\n\nMy secret sauce for getting your staff into the right mindset and actually looking forward to your meetings plus being more willing to engage after the meeting is long over\nHow to ditch the “monkey see\, monkey do” by using my simple template for pointing out your bias in holding your online meetings and how to make them more inclusive and accessible\nSeveral Simple (with a capital S) techniques for increasing engagement will make you look like the rockstar you are\nHow to take your online meetings to the next level by using F.G.L.A.s\nTo use some surprisingly easy tech tools that capture attention and get people interacting with nary a group groan (activities that are silly or embarrassing) in sight.\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff) \n\n   \nRSVP by March 15th. Then watch your inbox for our agenda and how to participate online.\n  \nPlease note the dates and times alternate each month so as to reach more people in various time zones at their request. \n\n7-9 am Vancouver\n8-10 am Mexico\n11 am-1 pm Rio\n10-noon Montreal/New York\n5-7 pm Nairobi\n6-8 pm Abu Dhabi\n\nClick here to convert to and confirm your timezone if it’s not listed above. Please double check your time as this time of year it’s a bit confusing with some countries shifting to daylight savings time and some not! \n  \nTake action now –> \n\nJoin the mailing list to receive invitations to the monthly meetings\, and get access to all the meeting resources.  \nRSVP by March 15th\nShare this workshop information with a friend and/or colleague and participate together.  The more the merrier.

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable: Harnessing Tech Tools for Turbulent Times Part Two
DESCRIPTION:In these turbulent\, trying times we are apart but that doesn’t mean we have to be isolated.  Tech tools can help bring us together\, they can help us connect\, bridge and help us feel like we belong.  Seriously. \n  \nBased on popular demand\, building on last month’s Roundtable\, we’re back for part Two of Harnessing Tech Tools for Turbulent Times. \n  \nEver felt so frustrated that you wanted to throw tech in the toilet?  While tech tools can definitely make us feel anxious and overwhelmed this May’s Learning and Development Roundtable will help you get a handle on those feelings by harnessing tech to help you (no that’s not a typo). Instead of feeling heckled by tech\, and out of control\, we’ll have fun demonstrating a bunch of tools that will put you back in the driver’s seat\, feeling calm\, competent and confident. \n\n“It’s using the technology\, and being creative with it\, and solving problems that people have or creating something beautiful with it.”\nLimor “Ladyada” Fried — MIT Graduate and Owner of DIY electronics company Adafruit \n\n\nGetting a handle on tech is a must today but that doesn’t mean it has to be painful or stressful.  Come and discover a whole new world of how tech can help you get more ease\, efficiency and productivity.  So you can get on with being of service and doing what you do best. \n\n“Technology is best when it brings people together.”\nMatt Mullenweg\, Social Media Entrepreneur\, Developer of WordPress \n\n\nIn this free workshop with Lee-Anne Ragan you’ll\n\n\nReview four ways to be in charge of tech (instead of it controlling you)\, which includes figuring out if you are an armadillo\, turtle\, duck or dolphin and why it’s SO important to know when you’re using tech tools. \n\n\nDiscover 3 categories of tech tools with demos of tools in each category: tools for research and listening\, tools for communication and learning and tools for ease and efficiency. \n\n\nExperience the magic and feel transformed as we pull back the curtain and demystify tech. \n\n\nDiscover the use and usefulness of tech in your work (and personal life) and get access to resources with all the tech tools we’ll cover. \n\n\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff) \n\n\n\n“Technology will never replace great teachers but technology in the hands of great teachers is transformational.” – George Couras \n\n\nRSVP here by May 13th.  Then watch your inbox for how to participate online and our agenda. \nAnd in the meantime join our mailing list so you don’t miss out on invitations\, meeting resources and more.

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable : How to put your learning into action
DESCRIPTION:Remember that terrific workshop\, course or other learning event you took last year and all your good intentions for putting your learning into action?  I’m guessing you may have fallen short by being overwhelmed\, forgetting where you put your notes or just simply not having any clue where to start. Don’t worry.  You’re in good company. We’re inundated with so many learning opportunities these days that it can be tough to make time for learning\, let alone how to make sure you apply that learning. \n“Knowledge without application is like a book that is never read”― Christopher Crawford \nLearning is key in today’s fast-paced world\, it’s key to social change\, to keep current and connected and contributing.  But too often learning stays academic or theoretical and doesn’t make its way into application. \n“Most of the people readily accept the principle but resist its practice.” ― Amit Kalantri \nThe March Learning and Development Roundtable will help you make sure your learning sticks and that you actually use it. \nIn this free workshop with Lee-Anne Ragan you’ll: \n\n\nLearn why putting your learning into action is so important\, especially these days and the three things you can do to get started immediately. \n\n\nDiscover two key ingredients for using your learning and how to completely customize both to fit you and your style. \n\n\nPut into practice three things you absolutely must have to apply your learning. \n\n\nExamine three specific circles that literally surround you to help you help yourself with applying your learning: environmental\, organizational and community. \n\n\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff) \n\n\n“Make your education valuable. Apply what you learned. Refuse to take the back seat and watch things happen. Join the change and be part of the change.” ― Israelmore Ayivor \nRSVP here by March 17th. \nOn the day of the Roundtable Workshop\, use this link if you’re joining us online.  And in the meantime join our mailing list so you don’t miss out on invitations\, meeting resources and more. \nGet all your questions about the Roundtable answered here.

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable - Build your own Learning Organization
DESCRIPTION:Every month\, I host a roundtable that brings together top minds in the learning and development space to network\, learn\, and support each other as we all keep up with the latest in the Learning and Development space and grow our organizations. Join us virtually or in person (at the UN in Nairobi)\, and enjoy access to an engaged\, excited group of your peers along with access to my portal of resources and 5+ years of meetings! \n\nThis month’s workshop is on adaptive management.  We all know that working together\, solving problems innovatively and experiential learning is fun and rewarding for any organization\, but have we realized that playing games and use our hands when building pathways\, structures and solutions will create better end products and services? That creating together and thinking aloud while doing so can allow an organization to achieve better outcomes?\n\n\n \n\n\nAll development organizations\, large and small\, encounter challenges and bottlenecks that prevent them from achieving the highest results and make the impact they envisioned. QED and I have developed a game that can be played by any team in any development organization to solve any problem and design pathways to improve results. \n\n\n \n\n\nThe game – Makusudi (Purpose in Swahili) – is an adaptive management tool and is used by teams in an organization when they need to figure out how to meet challenges\, address problems and find ways to correct the course. It is currently used by USAID in Uganda\, USAID in Egypt and headquarters of development organisations in Washington DC.\n\n\n \n\n\nCome and play the game and have a conversation about how to build an organization that promotes collaboration and learning to allow for course corrections and adaptations. November 8\, 10am to noon EAT.\n\n \n\n\n\nWorkshop leader Charlotta Sandin has 20 years of professional experience in strategy and policy development in public administration and extensive experience in Organizational Development\, M&E and Quality Assurance system management\, including CLA in USAID. Her areas of expertise include Strategy and policy\, Organizational Learning\, Governance\, Political Economy Analysis. A Swedish national\, she now makes her home in Kenya.\n\n  \nPlease join us online or in person. To RSVP please do so here no later than Tuesday\, November 5th COB.  Click here to find out what time we’re meeting in your time zone if you’re not in the EAT timezone listed. \n  \nAnd to receive regular invites & get access to all 6+ years of meeting resources join our mailing list.  Welcome!

Join us virtually or in person (at the UN in Nairobi)\, and enjoy access to an engaged\, excited group of your peers along with access to my portal of resources and 5+ years of meetings! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt’s my pleasure to invite you to the Friday\, March 22nd Learning & Development Roundtable from10 am to noon East Africa Timezone (click here to convert to your timezone if it’s different).  I’m particularly excited to welcome you to this month’s guest speaker\, Anna Kuhmunen\, a traditional Sami reindeer herder from Northern Sweden who will join us via Zoom.Workshop Description: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI will share with you the love of my Sami culture (my indigenous group from Northen Sweden) and how I work with non-Sami people to educate them about us “the fighting generation.” I started my company\, “Silba Siida” because I’m so tired that hardly anybody in Sweden knows anything about my people\, regardless of what generation you ask. \nFor my children’futurere\, I want to be able to look them in the eyes and let them know that I did everything I could for them to carry on our proud traditions despite many challenges of discrimination. That the Swedish people hardly know anytning about us is dangerous. They say that my terrirotory is wilderness\, but this it not widerness. My people have been here for 10.000 years.  It’s my passion to share my culture with others and also what I’ve learned about working to educate others\, often the same people who have historically done the discrimination. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnna’s bio:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnna Kuhmunen\, a traditional Sami (indigenous person from Northern Sweden)\, is the co-owner of  Silba Siida\, an organization that educates people about Sami culture\, traditions and history.  Before she started her business Anna worked for many years for Swedish National TV (SVT) hosting Sami children’s programs\, as well as touring internationally performing traditional Sami singing called Joiks. Anna just released her first book about reindeering herding with dogs. Her and her husband come from a long line of reindeer herders and carry on the tradition today sharing their Sami culture with others\, garthered around a roaring fire in a traditional Sami tent called a Lavvu\, while sharing a variety of homemade reindeer delicacies such as mince\, sausage and reindeer rib soup. While her guests relax on reindeer furs\, Anna shares her sacred Joik singing\, all of whcih combine into a magical memorable experience.
