SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable: Getting the knack of negotiation with six skills for nuanced negotiating
DESCRIPTION:Let’s talk conflict and money. \nHave you ever paused to think about the cost of conflict in the workplace\, both to you and your organization?  What if I told you it was £28.5 billion in the UK alone. This represents an “average of just over £1\,000 for every employee in the UK each year\, and just under £3\,000 annually for each individual involved in conflict.” (Pollack Peacebuilding Systems\, 2021). \n  \n“Employees in United States companies spend approximately 2.8 hours each week involved in conflict. This amounts to around $359 billion in hours paid that are filled with – and focused on – conflict instead of on positive productivity.” (Pollack Peacebuilding Systems\, 2021) \n  \nFor individuals\, unresolved conflict in the workplace can lead to an increase in stress\, anxiety\, depression\, sick days\, and decreased productivity\, disengagement\, and motivation. \n  \nFor organizations\, the cost is huge including an unhealthy organizational culture\, staff resignations and the cost and time to replace them\, project fails and ‘presenteeism.’ Presenteeism\, the practice of being present at one’s place of work for more hours than is required\, especially as a manifestation of insecurity about one’s job (Oxford dictionary)  “has a negative impact on productivity with an annual cost estimated between £590 million and £2.3 billion in the U.K. (Pollack Peacebuilding Systems\, 2021). \n  \nThat’s a whole lot of strife\, teeth-gnashing\, and sometimes even terror. \nAnd yet\, when faced with a conflict\, many of us do MORE (yes more) of what’s NOT working. \nBut it doesn’t have to be this way.  Add some negotiation skills to your conflict resolution toolkit and you’ll be on your way to more confidence\, less conflict\, and more calm. \n  \nIn this free workshop with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan\, on October 21st\, you’ll: \n\nLearn how to get the best of your nerves and do a simple climate analysis the next time you’re needing to negotiate a conflict\nLearn six simple negotiation skills including what the two most important questions to ask are \nUnlock various types of power plus the power of questions\, including some ‘wicked’ ones\nDiagnose the conflict in a snap using a simple matrix\nMap your way to success using a simple mapping tool\nCome away feeling inspired\, relaxed\, and re-energized with a toolkit full of strategies and tools for you to implement\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff)   \n\n  \nRSVP by October 19th. Then watch your inbox for our agenda and how to participate online. \nPlease note the dates and times alternate each month so as to reach more people in various time zones at their request. \n\n8-10 am Mexico\n11 am-1 pm Rio\n9-11 am Montreal/New York\n5-7 pm Nairobi\n6-8 pm Abu Dhabi\n\nClick here to convert to your timezone if it’s not listed above and to double-check the times as they can sometimes change due to daylight savings times. \nTake action now –> Join the mailing list to receive invitations to the monthly meetings\, and get access to all the meeting resources (including recordings of the Learning and Development Roundtables in case you can’t make it).  And RSVP for this one by October 19th.

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable: Top tips for online facilitating and public speaking
DESCRIPTION:Quick!  Can you recall a recent online meeting or workshop that was interesting\, engaging\, and had a powerful effect?  Nope?  I thought so. \n  \nOnline meetings and workshops have two things in common – the need to speak publicly and the need to facilitate or teach.  And both of those skills can be in woefully short supply. \n  \nAdd to that\, the fear of public speaking is the most common phobia ahead of even death and spiders!  Source: The national social anxiety center.  \n  \nCombine that fear with endless hours online and we have ourselves a recipe for anxiety and fear at worst or boredom and weariness at best.   \n  \nFacilitating and public speaking doesn’t have to inspire fear though.  Conversely\, they can (and should) inspire engagement\, fun\, interactivity\, and powerful learning.  And I’ll let you in on a little secret: both skills can easily be learned.  Here’s how. \n  \nIn this free workshop on August 19th\, with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan you’ll: \n\nLearn three simple tips for facilitating and teaching online:\n\n\n\n\nFigure out how a shower hook can make you look like a star\nLearn how to design a powerful and inclusive workshop for your S.A.K.E.© and the S.A.K.E.© of your participants\nDiscover which way you lean into learning and how to ensure your preference doesn’t get in the way of inclusive facilitation\n\n\n\n\nLearn four easy ways to be a powerful public speaker:\n\n\n\n\nThe nothing short of miraculous three roles water plays in public speaking \nWhat wonder woman and starfish have in common and how you can use them to counteract your nervousness for public speaking anytime and anywhere\nThe most powerful and overlooked tool in public speaking that is hidden right under your nose\nWhy the letter M needs to be given the boot for effective public speaking\n\n\n\n\nLaugh – have a great time and come away feeling inspired\, relaxed\, and re-energized with a toolkit full of strategies and tools for you to implement\nLead – put your learning into practice with some tips for after the Roundtable is done\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff)   \n\nRSVP by August 17th. Then watch your inbox for your agenda and how to participate online. \nPlease note the dates and times alternate each month so as to reach more people in various time zones at their request. \n\n8-10 am Mexico\n11 am-1 pm Rio\n9-11 am Montreal/New York\n5-7 pm Nairobi\n6-8 pm Abu Dhabi\n\nClick here to convert to your timezone if it’s not listed above. \nTake action now –> Join the mailing list to receive invitations to the monthly meetings\, and get access to all the meeting resources (including recordings of the Learning and Development Roundtables in case you can’t make it).  And RSVP by August 17th

DESCRIPTION:  \nAre you a victim of what I call the Covid creativity cloud?  Here are some of the symptoms.  See if you recognize any in yourself: \n  \n\nAn issue that would normally not cause you stress\, is making you bang your head against the wall\, and making any progress feel blocked.\nYou’re going around and around in circles\, trying to squeeze out some creativity on a particular project but your beleaguered brain cells are protesting.\nYou want to be playful and amp up your creativity but you … just ….. can’t…..right….now.\nYou’re facing a problem or a challenge and instead of finding alternatives\, you’re finding yourself doing more of whatever hasn’t been working so far.\nYou know you have a deep well of creativity within you but it’s been hidden by said cloud.\n\n  \nThe Covid creativity cloud is that feeling when the clouds gather and obscure your way forward.  The Covid creativity cloud tends to come just when demands and expectations are high and our resources\, time and energy are low.   \n  \nThe Covid cloud is playing havoc with our creativity. \n  \nWe’re overwhelmed and that leads to foggy thinking which leads to more stress. \n  \nStress is a well-known creativity killer\, says psychologist Robert Epstein\, PhD. Time constraints are another\, he says. \n  \nHelp is on the way.   \n  \nDespite the widely held belief that some people just aren’t endowed with the creativity gene\, “There’s not really any evidence that one person is inherently more creative than another\,” Dr. Epstein says. \n  \nCreativity\, especially and even during Covid cloud\, can be (re)harnessed and taught.  Come to this playful\, interactive workshop and learn six skills for creative problem solving. \n  \nIn this free workshop with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan you’ll: \n\nLearn my six point E.S.C.A.P.E.© plan that includes six new skills for amping up your creativity\nLaugh together as we have fun exploring creativity skills through some simple\, engaging creativity exercises\nExplore and experiment – bring an issue or a challenge you’re facing so you can apply your newfound skills right away\nLead – put your learning into practice with some tips for after the Roundtable is done\nCome away feeling inspired\, relaxed and re-energized with a toolkit full of strategies and tools for you to implement\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff)   \n\n   \nRSVP by May 19th. Then watch your inbox for our agenda and how to participate online. \nPlease note the dates and times alternate each month so as to reach more people in various time zones at their request. \n\n7 am to 9 am London\n10 am to noon Nairobi\n4 pm to 6 pm Fukuoka\n11 am to 1 pm Abu Dhabi\n\nClick here to convert to your timezone if it’s not listed above. \nTake action now –> Join the mailing list to receive invitations to the monthly meetings\, and get access to all the meeting resources.  And RSVP by May 19th.

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable: Leave no one behind: four inclusive\, accessible steps to teaching workshops
DESCRIPTION:You’ve signed up for that workshop you’ve wanted to take. It’s started. You’re in. You’re motivated. You’re learning…well\, sort of. Okay\, not really. Not at all actually.  Your learning has sunk farther and faster than the titanic. \n  \nAll of a sudden\, instead of looking forward to learning\, you’re feeling excluded\, left out\, and ignored.  Enter major roadblocks to your learning.   \n  \nCan you relate?  It.doesn’t.have.to.be.that.way.  And it shouldn’t. \n  \nHere’s how to help make sure that doesn’t happen the next time you’re designing and delivering a learning event. \n  \nGreat learning is powerful learning and when we set out to create powerful learning\, we must take into account the art and science of learning and development and how to not only make the learning materials inclusive and accessible but also the teaching. \n  \nWhat’s accessible and inclusive for some\, isn’t for everyone. And when someone doesn’t feel included then not only do we block their learning\, but we block the opportunity to learn from them too. Everyone loses—individuals\, organizations\, and our communities. \n  \n“Leave no One Behind” – it sounds good yet often workshops do just that. Most learning events are not designed using an inclusive approach.  As a result\, we leave both learners and valuable insights and potential solutions to pressing social problems behind.  This Learning and Development Roundtable aims to resolve that with four inclusive steps that anyone can use for face to face and/or online/blended workshops\, to overcome bias in workshop design and delivery.   \n  \nBy using these four inclusive steps\, not only will everyone have a seat at the table\, but they will be able to meaningfully engage. \n \nIn this free workshop with me\, Lee-Anne Ragan you’ll: \n\nLearn how to use two simple tools to design powerful\, inclusive workshops\nDiscover where your bias is in teaching and learning and how to work around it so you don’t unwittingly exclude your learners\nDiscover the link between starfish and wonder woman a.k.a. two tools you can use right away to help you provide more accessible learning\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff) \n\nRSVP here by September  16th. Then watch your inbox for our agenda and how to participate online. \nAnd in the meantime join our mailing list so you don’t miss out on invitations\, seven plus years of meeting resources and more.

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable : How to put your learning into action
DESCRIPTION:Remember that terrific workshop\, course or other learning event you took last year and all your good intentions for putting your learning into action?  I’m guessing you may have fallen short by being overwhelmed\, forgetting where you put your notes or just simply not having any clue where to start. Don’t worry.  You’re in good company. We’re inundated with so many learning opportunities these days that it can be tough to make time for learning\, let alone how to make sure you apply that learning. \n“Knowledge without application is like a book that is never read”― Christopher Crawford \nLearning is key in today’s fast-paced world\, it’s key to social change\, to keep current and connected and contributing.  But too often learning stays academic or theoretical and doesn’t make its way into application. \n“Most of the people readily accept the principle but resist its practice.” ― Amit Kalantri \nThe March Learning and Development Roundtable will help you make sure your learning sticks and that you actually use it. \nIn this free workshop with Lee-Anne Ragan you’ll: \n\n\nLearn why putting your learning into action is so important\, especially these days and the three things you can do to get started immediately. \n\n\nDiscover two key ingredients for using your learning and how to completely customize both to fit you and your style. \n\n\nPut into practice three things you absolutely must have to apply your learning. \n\n\nExamine three specific circles that literally surround you to help you help yourself with applying your learning: environmental\, organizational and community. \n\n\nCount the workshop towards your annual UN-Mandated training (If you’re a UN staff) \n\n\n“Make your education valuable. Apply what you learned. Refuse to take the back seat and watch things happen. Join the change and be part of the change.” ― Israelmore Ayivor \nRSVP here by March 17th. \nOn the day of the Roundtable Workshop\, use this link if you’re joining us online.  And in the meantime join our mailing list so you don’t miss out on invitations\, meeting resources and more. \nGet all your questions about the Roundtable answered here.

SUMMARY:Learning and Development Roundtable - Build your own Learning Organization
DESCRIPTION:Every month\, I host a roundtable that brings together top minds in the learning and development space to network\, learn\, and support each other as we all keep up with the latest in the Learning and Development space and grow our organizations. Join us virtually or in person (at the UN in Nairobi)\, and enjoy access to an engaged\, excited group of your peers along with access to my portal of resources and 5+ years of meetings! \n\nThis month’s workshop is on adaptive management.  We all know that working together\, solving problems innovatively and experiential learning is fun and rewarding for any organization\, but have we realized that playing games and use our hands when building pathways\, structures and solutions will create better end products and services? That creating together and thinking aloud while doing so can allow an organization to achieve better outcomes?\n\n\n \n\n\nAll development organizations\, large and small\, encounter challenges and bottlenecks that prevent them from achieving the highest results and make the impact they envisioned. QED and I have developed a game that can be played by any team in any development organization to solve any problem and design pathways to improve results. \n\n\n \n\n\nThe game – Makusudi (Purpose in Swahili) – is an adaptive management tool and is used by teams in an organization when they need to figure out how to meet challenges\, address problems and find ways to correct the course. It is currently used by USAID in Uganda\, USAID in Egypt and headquarters of development organisations in Washington DC.\n\n\n \n\n\nCome and play the game and have a conversation about how to build an organization that promotes collaboration and learning to allow for course corrections and adaptations. November 8\, 10am to noon EAT.\n\n \n\n\n\nWorkshop leader Charlotta Sandin has 20 years of professional experience in strategy and policy development in public administration and extensive experience in Organizational Development\, M&E and Quality Assurance system management\, including CLA in USAID. Her areas of expertise include Strategy and policy\, Organizational Learning\, Governance\, Political Economy Analysis. A Swedish national\, she now makes her home in Kenya.\n\n  \nPlease join us online or in person. To RSVP please do so here no later than Tuesday\, November 5th COB.  Click here to find out what time we’re meeting in your time zone if you’re not in the EAT timezone listed. \n  \nAnd to receive regular invites & get access to all 6+ years of meeting resources join our mailing list.  Welcome!

That the Swedish people hardly know anytning about us is dangerous. They say that my terrirotory is wilderness\, but this it not widerness. SUMMARY:Life Lenses® and Goal Setting
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, clients come to me whispering the same secret.\nThey know they need to make a plan if they want their organization to be successful. \nThey know they need to have the processes to implement that plan if they want their actions to be effective. \nAnd yet\, the very thought of planning makes them want to run. \nCan you relate?\nI get it. Most of the planning systems out there work for a very small segment of the population who just happens to jive with them. But for everyone else\, they’re too limited\, too rigid\, too boring\, too complicated\, too guilt-inducing … the very thought of them sends people running. \nBecause let’s be real: you’re busy. You don’t have time to implement some super-complicated uber-plan. You don’t want a generic plan that probably won’t work for your organization\, much less your work style. \nThat being said\, you really want 2019 to be the year you finally get yourself together and start having the impact you know you could with the right plan and processes. Quelle dilemma\, right? \nBut what if you could craft your most effective\, most enjoyable year yet … in just one afternoon?\n(Hint: you totally can.)\nI work with smart\, savvy seekers and meaning-makers on a globally-minded mission to make the world (or at least your corner of it) a better place\, and I can show you exactly how to create a plan that covers all your bases — and leverages your innate strengths. \nThe truth is\, the world DESPERATELY needs more of what you have to offer. I can show you how to carve out some time to craft a year that fits you to a T so you can take off\, jam-packed with both a dream to chase AND an anchor to hold you steady and on course while you chase it. \nThe result?\nYou get out of trenches of frustration\, fatigue\, and flopping about\, shut down shiny object syndrome\, and get a plan and a process to custom-tailor your best year yet. \nYou get the confidence that comes from knowing where you’re headed and EXACTLY how you’re going to get there. (Seriously\, can you feel your blood pressure lowering?) \nAnd ultimately\, you get to dive in deep to the things that matter the most to you — making the world a better place in  your own cool\, creative way — knowing that you’ve got the plan and process to translate all that heart and energy into tangible\, exciting effects. \n \nHow do I know it works? Well for starters\, 100% of the people who have taken the course would recommend it to others. Plus they say lovely things like:\n“The Life Lenses® have totally revolutionized the way I work — everything from my weekly planning all the way up to my yearly goal setting is just so. much. easier. And I feel so much relief knowing that I’ve got a system in place to help me both see my blindspots and really double down on my strengths. \nThe years before I used the Life Lenses® planning method started out great and then descended into craziness.
