Scott Peck said, “Mental health is a commitment to reality at all costs.”
Someone else said, “Sanity is a commitment to reality at all costs.”
Which got me thinking about our mental health and our very sanity during these difficult days.

So I made you a handy, dandy visual based on your need, your self-diagnosis, and your “prescription.”
Please take good care, as the world needs your passion, talents, and skills more than ever. Not to mention your human decency, kindness, and collaboration.
Check it out.
Do you need to rest up, get lit up, stand up, or be fired up? Here’s how to tell.

Rest up
- The need: rest up
- The diagnosis: some days, when it’s all you can do to not burst into tears with anger and frustration at the way the world is turning these days, go gentle with yourself, dear one
- The prescription: examine your self-care using my handy, dandy worksheet below, and get inspired for your own
- Resource: Eight different types of self-care and examples of each (which you can add to)

Lit up
- The need: you want to feel lit up, energized, and proactive.
- The diagnosis: you’ve got some gas in your tank and are keen to make a difference.
- The prescription: follow your curiosity and see where it takes you. Look at what those you respect and admire are doing and take heed. Support other people who are making a difference. Send notes of gratitude. Donate
- Resource: A Guide to Change

Stand up
- The need: you want to make a difference yourself.
- The diagnosis: you’ve got more gas in your tank and the time and energy to do something.
- The prescription: figure out your priority(ies) and get your mojo going. Write to your government officials. Protest. Vote with your dollars/how you spend your resources.
- Resource: How to Make a Difference: 5 Steps to be an Effective Change Maker

Fire up
- The need: you want to make a difference with others.
- The diagnosis: you’re about to burst into flames, you’re so fired up with energy, and you need to take action.
- The prescription: find your people, your clan, your community. Support, take a stand, rinse and repeat.
- Resource: Coalition building
I get it. I feel you. The world is a scary place right now.
We’re in this for the long haul, so be sure to figure out what you need in this moment – to rest up, lit up, stand up, or fired up. Then pair it up with the diagnosis, prescription, and resource.
You’ll be better for it.
And that’s a very good thing.
