Are you struggling to name how you’re feeling these days?
You’ve got every reason, in the wake of world events these days, to feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, at a loss, etc.

Let’s try to turn the page on that, shall we? (Even if temporarily.)
How long has it been since you’ve felt a combination of any of the following?
- feeling connected
- having difficulty speaking because you’re overcome
- goosebumps
- feeling warm and syrupy
- crying with happiness
- feeling “moved, stirred, transported, or “elevated.”
- having a lump in your throat

These are all signs of a newly named emotion called kama muta (Sanskrit for “being moved by love”).
“‘Kama muta,’ a newly named emotion that is of increasing interest to psychologists. It marks some of the most important moments in our relationships with our family, friends, and the wider community.”
“The warm and fuzzy emotion of kama muta underlies vital feel-good experiences like social connection and feeling part of something bigger. But are you getting enough of it?,” David Robinson in the New Scientist.
What causes it?
Getting “triggered by the intensification of some kind of social relationship.”

Why is it important?
“Kama muta may help us to gain more perspective on our lives, which improves our overall well-being. Social connection is a huge factor in human health and survival.”
“The emotion you never knew you had, and how to feel more of it.”
Seven ways we can up our kama muta?

- Reach out to someone special that you haven’t connected with in a while
- Watch a moving show (check out Queer Eye, season 10, episode one)
- Listen to a moving piece of music (you can get the link to my fab fav playlist below)
- Pray and/or meditate
- Give thanks – write a note of gratitude and send it
- Read “Fix the news” – stories that will uplift and inspire you and your kama muta. Subscribe to their newsletter and get your weekly
- Look at a picture of Earth from space
In these beleaguered times, where simply getting out of bed and getting dressed to face another brutal day can get the best of us, it’s high time for some kama muta. Won’t you join me?
Now go on and learn, laugh, and lead

Learn
- Make a playlist of music that moves you. Here’s mine. Take a listen.
Laugh
- Simon Sinek’s quick clip on cheering you on, just doing it gives me goosebumps every time. Celebrate those who do, not those who win.
Lead
- Write a note of gratitude and send it off to a person who’s special to you. See my year of gratitude for inspiration, where I did this weekly for two years.
