What would you talk about if you were to give a talk at your kid’s school on career day? I was asked to give a talk at my kid’s school recently & here’s what I came up with:
1. Goals: have ’em
2. Opportunities: make ’em & take ’em
3. Flexible focus: focus like a mutha’ but at the same time be flexible with your focus, don’t be so head-down focused that you miss out on great opportunities or worse, that because you’re so focused you don’t realize you need to change what you’re focused on
4. Say Yes: to opportunities, to adventure, to trying something new, to jumping in when you’re not quite sure
5. Say No: to things that continuously suck your energy, that you’re not good at, that you dread

And you? What would you say?
I would say leave as many doors open as possible. This often involves taking some difficult classes at school but if you change your mind later it will make everything much easier. Also, never burn any bridges behind you (and explain what I mean by that) you never know.
Leaving doors open is always a good thing. Hmmm do I smell a story Carol about burning bridges? 🙂
