With grit and grace and gumption we’ve made it through this year, where any day it felt like gravity was going to stop working. And that is worth celebrating here with a special gift!
We’re working our way back to each other in new ways, seeing clearly what needs to change including and especially what’s been yearning to unfold in gentler, more inclusive and healthier ways.
We’ve tried and sorely tested the Japanese saying ‘Fall down seven times, stand up eight.’ But our dreams have carried us when our legs wouldn’t (with or without the help of our favorite beverage).
And we’re more certain of the paths we want to go down and those we should avoid.
I for one, know that you’re the one I want to be in community with, to support and help you learn, laugh and lead.
And on some days, when 2020 almost brought us to our knees, we kept on smiling until the resurrection shuffle got us upright and on track again.
‘Cause nothing’s going to stop us now. We’re keeping it real because we the people are darker than blue.
Woohoo, odoo, yahoo – we’re rising even when it feels like our hearts have been attacked.
Still we break through. Still we rise.
I’ll say I’m sorry now with the mistakes I’ll inevitably make in the coming year but with cool clear water that cleanses and winds that blow the storm away, make way, for here comes the sun.
So let us lift our eyes up because we’re alive. We’re staying alive.
And when things seem spinning out of control, as they inevitably will from time to time next year …
And when things become stretched with strife and discord, as they inevitably will, let’s release and vent
And then, find the harmony, the through line, the way forward.
Because people really do have the power. So let’s keep going … together.
Even and especially, when it means dodging boulders and singing in the rain.
Stay well. Stay safe. Be creative.
